Rosy got so many calls and texts wishing her a happy birthday. She even got to hear a few sing Happy Birthday to her! Thanks so much to each of you--I think she had a great 1st birthday.

Birthday at the Playground
The Birthday Girl wasn't feeling well yesterday and I suspect she's teething again. In an attempt to do something fun on her birthday and distract her from her tooth troubles, we loaded up and headed over to check out the nearby playground. The wind made jackets necessary but Rosy had a great time exploring and watching the other kids play. She got to wear her new bonnet too! I was very impressed at how nice and clean the playground was--we'll be spending lots of time there! We ended the day with some of Rosy's birthday cake!

Video: A New Birthday Tradition, Part 1
(Please excuse my sorry excuse for a singing voice--I'd been awake for about 30 seconds when I started recording)
A New Birthday Tradition
Our new family tradition is to sneak balloons into Rosy's room before she wakes up on the morning of her birthday. Thankfully she didn't wake up when I took them into her room at 5:30 a.m. this morning! A hungry tummy and pain from teething overshadowed the purple balloons though. After a quick nursing session she hopped down to play with the balloons and loved them!
Time for Cake!
Rosy's "smash cake" was made of four layers of banana bread and had a greek yogurt frosting. We haven't really ever given her sweets and I didn't want to overwhelm her with oil and sugar just because it was her birthday, so I thought up this cake recipe, which was pretty healthy as far as cakes go. Rosy wasn't interested in it at all though, even when I told her it had yogurt on it, which is her current favorite food. She managed to get her toes in it and a little on her fingers, which ended up all over my shirt, the floor, and then she was done with it all. We're learning to go with the flow quite often these days!
Time for Presents!
Yesterday we celebrated our girl's first birthday. As unbelievable as it is to me, watching her display so many of her milestones in just the short time we helped her open gifts reminds me that she's not such a baby anymore. She's growing fast and we're so proud of her. While Rosy took her daily nap, I quickly hung decorations and prepared for our little party. Rosy wasn't quite sure of things at first until she shook the fogginess of her nap, and there were a few fits thrown along the way too. She had fun though!
We had a great time celebrating her birthday together. She recieved many sweet gifts from family (and a huge Thank You to all of you!) and she's enjoying each of them very much.
